999 Charity Golf Day

On Friday 19th September 2025, Ryde Golf Course played host to the annual 999 Charity Golf Event, welcoming 44 golfers for a day of sport, solidarity, and fundraising. Open to all island Emergency Services Personnel, Armed Forces members, and individuals or families affected by brain tumours, the event aimed to raise both awareness of brain tumours and much-needed funds for local charity The Wight Brainy Bunch.

There was a fantastic turnout, with teams representing a wide range of services including the Police, Fire Service, Prison Service, and the NHS. The event enjoyed favourable weather, and participants made the most of a brilliant afternoon of golf and camaraderie.

This year’s event was generously sponsored by TeeHut Golf, who donated an impressive first prize package.

Congratulations go to the winning team, represented by the Police, with the Fire Service team taking a close second place.

Special thanks to Nickie Moreton who organised this fantastic event, and shares her personal motivation for doing so below:

“Following my brain tumour diagnosis in 2011, as a single mother with two young children, I found myself very much alone, unsupported (aside from my parents and close family), and scared. I had to write my Will, and the night before my surgery, I said goodbye to my children not knowing if I would ever see them again. My single wish is that no one else should have to go through that traumatic time alone.

Since the charity was founded, in 2015, I’ve been committed to organising events like this to raise funds and awareness for others facing similar battles. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all who participated, donated, or supported the event in any way. Your contribution will help make a real difference in someone’s life.”

Thanks to the generosity and spirit of everyone involved, the event raised an impressive £1,526. These funds will go a long way in supporting Island families affected by brain tumours.
