Need Help with writing job applications
Islander Mike Sizer-Green was diagnosed with a craniopharyngioma in November 2013. Surgery and radiotherapy left him with profound fatigue and lack of stamina. Post-surgery he was also diagnosed with pan hypopituitarism, a condition affecting the hormonal system. He had to leave his job in the police on medical grounds. With that decision (which was made against his wishes) Mike’s career aspirations and plans went out the window!
Mike understands how daunting returning to the job market might be for those recovering from treatment or for those who may have left work to offer care. A lack of confidence – even among high performers – or feelings of low self-esteem are common.
Mike holds an MSc in Leadership and Management, a BA in Criminology and Criminal Justice and a Certificate in Education. He also holds a range of psychology-based qualifications. Prior to and since brain tumour treatment Mike has held a range of managerial or organisational oversight positions.
In his professional and personal experience, he knows that many people find the process of writing a job application overwhelming. It might be that they lack the time or the confidence to prepare an application or they cannot accurately portray their knowledge and skills in the written form. Some people may suffer from imposter syndrome and undersell their skills and experience.
MSG Professional Job Application Service was set up by Mike to help people affected by brain tumours or cancer. For every person referred via the Wight Brainy Bunch, Mike will donate back 30% of any fees to the charity.
For many years prior to and post diagnosis, Mike has helped people develop their job or promotion applications. The overwhelming majority of those he’s helped have achieved success. Mike promises that anyone seeking help will be treated ethically, with kindness and with integrity.
Fees for this service range from £50 for a first time job applicant to £100 for someone applying for a managerial post. These fees significantly undercut any similar service, and don’t forget, 30% of fees will be given to the Wight Brainy Bunch.
Feedback from previous clients:
“Your reputation was, and continues to be in my personal opinion, one of upmost esteem, integrity, and professionalism. You are known to be hardworking, intellectually gifted, well liked and respected”.
“I personally find that I can have difficulty articulating or putting into words the message I would like to convey to employers, which can be a barrier to my own success. It has been of immense help to have the support of someone to communicate this more concisely, coherently and effectively on your behalf”.
“I find applications where one has to confidently portray their strengths and achievements, difficult and uncomfortable; your application/input has helped improve my confidence, self-esteem and self-belief in my capabilities, and that I do deserve to be a contender in the process, as much as anyone else. It has felt like a weight has been lifted, and the burden shared”.
“At the point of reaching out to Mike for assistance, I was literally pulling my hair out and suffering from brain fog. I had spent numerous hours, collating my evidence for the application, but was becoming quite frustrated and despondent. Mike worked endlessly on my application, curtailing my evidence, correcting mistakes, rephrasing/improving my layout/ content and highlighting my skills & experience. He demonstrated my abilities in a way that was really impressive. I believe that Mike’s assistance and refinement of my application really enhanced my chance of success”.
