Green vs White Shoreline Challenge

Last month Ryde Fire’s Green Watch commenced their latest fundraiser event ‘Green vs Wight Shoreline Challenge’ in aid of The Wight Brainy Bunch. They left the Hovertravel terminal at approximately 05:30am on Friday 22nd July and proceeded to circumnavigate the Island in an anticlockwise direction.

Watch Manager, Chaz Wright is retiring from HIWFRS next year and he wanted one final challenge before he retires. He has supported Mark right through his second surgery in 2019 and the subsequent treatments he endured and has continued to do so, and so decided to choose this charity due to its close connection to Green Watch, and Ryde Fire station as a whole.

Ryde Fire station is no stranger to extreme fundraising events and previously carried a ladder around the Island in 36 hours, run in a human hamster wheel for 48 hours, climbed the equivalent of Mount Everest 8 times (up and down a 10 meter high ladder) non-stop for 24 hours. However, this challenge involved 60 miles of contending with sand, shingle, stones, rocks, mud, clay, blue slipper, the Needles and of course, tides!

We’re pleased to say all the team successfully and safely completed their challenge, arriving back at Ryde Hovertravel at approximately at 6pm om Sunday 24th July.

There is still time to donate to their fundraising page HERE
