Wow what a day!
On Saturday 25th July, we welcomed hundreds of people to Newport Quay for our first Wight Brainy Bunch Fire Engine Pull, and we’re still smiling after such an incredible community event.
From the moment the Isle of Wight Highland Pipes & Drums opened the day to the final performance from Mist Acoustics, Newport Quay was buzzing with excitement. Twenty teams took on the challenge of pulling a full-size fire appliance, while supporters lined the course to cheer them on, creating an atmosphere that was simply unforgettable.
Congratulations to IOW RFC, who claimed the title with a fantastic winning time of 24.76 seconds. They were closely followed by Blues & Whites and Open Reach, but every single team should be incredibly proud of their efforts. The determination, teamwork and good humour shown throughout the day perfectly reflected what our charity is all about.
Away from the competition, visitors enjoyed a fantastic programme of live music, delicious food, local traders and family entertainment, making the Fire Engine Pull much more than just a race. It was a celebration of our amazing Isle of Wight community and the difference we can make when we come together.
Events like this simply wouldn’t happen without the support of so many people.
To every team that entered and raised sponsorship, thank you for taking on the challenge.
To our volunteers, thank you for the many hours you dedicated before, during and after the event to ensure everything ran smoothly.
To our sponsors, performers, stallholders and everyone who donated their time, services or resources, thank you for helping us create such a fantastic day.
And to everyone who came along to support us – whether you donated, bought a raffle ticket, enjoyed the music or simply cheered the teams across the finish line – thank you. Your support means more than you know.
While the Fire Engine Pull is a fun community event, it has a much bigger purpose.
Every pound raised helps us continue supporting people across the Isle of Wight who are living with a brain tumour. From offering practical assistance and financial support to simply being there when people need us most, every event we hold helps us continue that vital work.
We’re still adding up the final fundraising total, and we’ll be sharing the fantastic amount raised very soon.
For now, we’d simply like to say thank you.
Seeing our community pull together in support of local brain tumour patients is exactly why we do what we do, and Saturday was a wonderful reminder of the kindness and generosity that exists across the Isle of Wight.
We can’t wait to do it all again next year. 🚒💙
